Fire Marshal's Office

ATTENTION: On 5/27/2025, the State of Georgia will be updating the GA 120-3-3 Rules and Regulations for the State of Georgia Fire Safety Standards. Most notably, this will update NFPA 101 Life Safety Code to the 2024 version. This will not affect any plans already approved by the fire marshal’s office. Any plans currently being prepared will be allowed a 90-day grace period if there are any conflicts with the updated codes. General Information

The Social Circle Fire Marshal's Office is a division of the City of Social Circle Fire department. The Fire Marshal's Division is under the direction of Deputy Chief Fire Marshall Lester Pittman. There is currently one Fire Marshall and one inspector that works in this division. 

 

Responsibilities

The division is charged with the implementation and management of multiple programs including:

  • New Business License Inspections
  • Existing Building Fire Inspections
  • New Building Permits and Inspections (In Coordination with the Development Director)
  • Change of Use and Change of Occupancy Classifications for Existing Buildings
  • Life Safety Trade Permitting (Fire Alarm, Sprinkler Systems, Fire Pumps, Tanks, etc.)
  • Plan Review
  • Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement
  • Knox Box Program
  • Fire Watch Enforcement
  • Community Connect
  • Fire Safety Education

Based on Title 25, Chapter 2 O.C.G.A., the Fire Marshall's Office has three major responsibilities: 

  1. Conduct fire & life safety inspections of existing buildings and structures. 
  2. Review plans and specifications for proposed buildings and structures, issue building permits with the Building Departments when plans are approved, and conduct fire & life safety inspections of such buildings and structures. 
  3. Issue joint Certificate of Occupancy with the Building Departments of Social Circle, when all appropriate inspections have been approved.
