Position Summary
The Class I Water Treatment Plant Operator/Plant Supervisor performs highly skilled technical and administrative work in the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of a municipal water treatment facility. This position is responsible for supervising daily plant operations, scheduling personnel, ensuring compliance with Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) regulations, completing required reporting, overseeing sampling programs, managing chemical procurement, and ensuring proper maintenance and calibration of all plant equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operates, monitors, and adjusts water treatment processes including chemical feed systems, filtration, disinfection, and pumping equipment.
Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local drinking water regulations, including the Safe Drinking Water Act and Georgia EPD requirements.
Prepares, reviews, and submits all required EPD reports, including Monthly Operating Reports (MORs), Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) data, and operational logs.
Collects and coordinates daily, weekly, monthly, and regulatory water samples; performs routine laboratory analyses.
Develops and maintains operator schedules to ensure adequate staffing and 24/7 plant coverage.
Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of treatment chemicals, laboratory supplies, safety equipment, and operational materials.
Ensure all plant equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and calibrated annually, including meters, analyzers, and chemical feed systems.
Coordinates preventive maintenance and repair activities with staff, contractors, and vendors.
Maintains accurate operational, maintenance, and compliance records.
Supervises, trains, mentors, and evaluates operators and OperatorinTraining (OIT) personnel.
Responds to emergencies, alarms, and operational issues as needed.
Required Qualifications
Georgia Class I Water Treatment Plant Operator License (required).
High school diploma or GED.
Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Knowledge of water treatment processes, SCADA systems, laboratory procedures, and EPD reporting requirements.
Ability to interpret regulations, technical manuals, and operational data.
Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory or management experience in a water treatment environment.
Experience with MOR submission, CCR preparation, and regulatory audits.
Mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation troubleshooting experience.
Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, and reporting software.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
